Why Corded Window Treatments Are Phasing Out at SelectBlinds

Say goodbye to corded window coverings!

We’re adjusting our products to comply with the current revision of the American National Standards Institute/ Window Covering Manufacturers Association (ANSI/WCMA) Safety Standard.

You’ll notice the elimination of free hanging lift and tilt cord options on our website. And all of our products will be migrated to operate with a combination of tensioned continuous chain or cord loop devices, retractable cord or cordless lift options. In addition, most of our products will continue to be offered with motorized lift system options.

The new safety standard eliminates free hanging corded lift and tilt operating systems because dangling cords can pose a hazard to young children and even small pets. As a result of product innovation and design efforts, we are now able to completely eliminate these systems from all of our window covering products!

We care about keeping your family safe! It’s why SelectBlinds became the first custom window covering company to offer a cordless lift option on every product back in March 2016, and we’re happy to continue upgrading our products to protect your family.

Free hanging lift or tilt corded window coverings will not be sold at SelectBlinds, starting June 1, 2024. Tensioned CCL lift systems will only be available on our shade products. We will not ship non-compliance products manufactured on or after June 1, 2024 under any circumstances.

What if I need a replacement on a previous order?

Any replacement product ordered after June 1, 2024 will be made to meet the new standard. This may cause your window covering to look or operate differently.

I need to order cordless blinds. What can I do to keep my kids safe in the meantime?

Follow these tips from the Window Covering Safety Council to help avoid the potential danger to kids that is posed by free hanging corded lift and tilt operating systems.

  • Move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys away from windows and window covering cords. Another wall without windows would be best.
  • Make sure that tasseled pull cords are as short as possible.
  • Use cord cleats to secure cords
  • Continuous-loop cords on shades and blinds should be permanently anchored to the wall and with the cord loop remaining under tension at all times so the chain or cord is taunt.
  • Keep all window covering cords well out of the reach of children. Eliminate any dangling cords.
  • Check that cord stops are properly installed and adjusted to limit the movement of inner lift cords.
