If you have large, wide windows, you might have felt challenged finding extra wide curtains for them. Sliding windows can go up to 84″ wide, and picture windows can reach a max of 96″. What to Consider when Buying Wide Window Curtains
Before you start, consider these important questions:
- What is their purpose? Think about what you want from your curtains. You’re covering a wide window, but do you still want light to enter the room? If so, a light-filtering fabric would be an ideal choice. If you want more privacy and less light, consider adding a room-darkening liner.
- What kind of statement do you want to make? Large windows are a focal point in any room. A neutral color can help it blend into your decor while a striking color or a bold pattern will draw attention.
- Do you want grommet or pleated curtains? Pleated curtains offer a more formal, traditional look while grommet curtains are more contemporary and modern. Our Measuring Guide addresses how to measure for each style.
- How long should they be? This also pertains to measuring, but it’s important to keep in mind. If you plan on opening these curtains a lot, a “trouser break” where they are barely touching the floor is the best option. But if you’re going for a more formal look and won’t be opening them, then consider “puddling” the fabric on the floor.
