With summer around the corner, it’s time to refresh the patio so it’s ready for weekend bbqs and pool parties. Outdoor roller shades, which we’ll call exterior solar shades, are the best window covering to cover your patio deck.
These outdoor shades are made from high quality sun control fabrics, so they diffuse harsh sunlight, reduce glare and block harmful UV rays. Plus, they come standard with waterproof and weatherproof components and mechanisms. SelectBlinds exterior solar shades come in varying openness percentages, so you can block the sun but keep the view.

What is “Openness Percentage”?
The openness percentage indicates the tightness of the fabric weave, which is an indication of the percentage of light that can penetrate through (e.g. 1%, 3%, 5%, etc.). Low openness means a more tightly woven fabric, with less visibility through the shade and a higher opacity. Higher openness percentages indicate a looser fabric weave, and therefore, greater visibility.
- Lower openness percentages (e.g. 1% – 5%) block out more of the sun’s UV rays and offer more privacy; however, they do limit outward visibility.
- Medium openness percentages (e.g. 10%) maintain a good amount of your view to the rest of your backyard while still offering suitable protection for your patio furniture.
- High openness percentage (e.g. 14%) provide the best visibility as well as decent glare reduction.
