Updated December 2023

Wood blinds are one of the easiest of window coverings to clean. With a minimal regular cleaning routine, they will look amazing for years. Many people ask questions like, “What is the best way to clean wood blinds?” or “how to clean wooden blinds easily?” Keep reading to see our recommendation!

Clean wood blinds in a bedroom
1. Never Use Water

Even though wood blinds are sealed and treated, you should never use water to clean them. This can cause bubbling, sagging, bowing, and other deformities. Ultrasonic cleaners and chemical solvents can also damage the wooden slats. A clean, dry cloth is really all you need.

2. Dust Them

Treat your window blinds as part of your regular furniture. When you, or someone else, is cleaning in general, simply add your wood blinds to the mental list of items that need to be dusted. Use a dry, soft feather duster; a clean, dry cloth; dust cloth; or dusting mitt, and lightly wipe or brush the top of each slat. We recommend tilting the blinds to a 45-degree angle to make it easier.

3. Use Your Vacuum Attachment

Every now and then, while you are cleaning your house, you may find the need to put that little attachment on to the end of your vacuum. Again, add your wood blinds to this routine. Use the soft brush attachment to get rid of any stubborn dust bunnies or spider webs.

4. Use What You Have

Out of cleaning supplies? One easy way to get dust off of your wood blinds is to use a dryer sheet. The dirt and dust will attach itself to the sheet, and it will help keep dust off going forward. An old sock pulled over your hand also works great to remove dust from both the top and bottom of the slats at the same time.
